Day 41
Lizard to Penzance
Smells like team spirit
Every day, since early July the A-team has kept this crusade cooking on the trails and paths of England and Wales. From Cloughie's Nottingham to Constable's Suffolk and Hardy's Dorset to Poldark's Cornwall, Rachel, Dawn, Trevor and Barry have put in monumental shifts. Just today as Barry was trying to keep pace with the buffered front two, Dawn was getting John's van (thanks for the loan mate) buffed, legacy of prickly Cornish lanes, for free with a local car tailor...Spandau Valet! To cut a long story short their service was gold, that much is true. At the same time Rachel was finessing her drone above a staggering and stumbling suit while Trevor was framing this blog. Multiply by 41 days.
To these heroes I must add Elaine who had a stretch of this on her own and of course I must also salute Mo's bounteous kitchen and Donna alchemising these base metals every single night online. A team and a vital one, every one of these helpers, Baldricks and factotums have been absolutely crucial, every day they have had to endure my unreasonable instructions invariably ending acronymically with D.F.U. (work it out...) and every day they've had to deal with my impatience, pain and irascibility as have the hundreds of walkers who have trekked, ascended and yomped generally in front of the beast they all care for.
They are mentors and larders, planners and strategists, teachers and police and somehow we are still talking.
Crusade, pilgrimage, quest or indeed (as many have called it) Odyssey, it ends tomorrow. Give me one more day will you...?
Now, about those tights....
980 miles completed. 20 miles remaining. How far did you walk today?
