Day 40

Maenporth (Falmouth) to Lizard

He' scone by Saturday

Quite early this morning an encroaching tide meant an amphibious taxi was required. A rather flimsy craft showed and the pilot was told, with a good deal of relish, that 'he was going to need a bigger boat.' Sadly this was the end of the morning's frivolities because at around 11 km something happened that very nearly destroyed the whole crusade. Tea was there, coffee too, chocolate, fruit, flap jacks, ginger cake and malt loaf..,... But no butter. The perpetrator of this egregious culinary negligence and indeed gastronomic heresy has obviously been summarily dismissed and there will be early Soreen tests for applicants at 06.00 tomorrow, as we search for the new leader of Lurpak.

Cath was a colossus today, another absurdly fit fell runner who joins the Amazonian trio of Jenny, Roxy & Ali. What was worse was she bought her sinisterly durable husband with her. Sue and I spent most of the day keeping up along some desperately narrow, wet trails. Cornwall did what Cornwall does: coastal villages as charming as their inhabitants.

Well over 500 people have donated. This means something. It really does. Two days to go, 45 miles to go ... see any fat ladies ...? Nor do I.

955 miles completed. 45 remaining. How far did you walk today?
