Day 39

East Portholland to Maenporth (Falmouth)

Before I recount the day's dramas I must start apportioning some thanks for the remarkable support over this summer, so tonight there is a huge shout for all of those who gave up their homes for the team, this has made a massive difference, not only did they surrender their property but often cooked for ridiculously engorged appetites and even some silly dietaries (taut. alert) There will be further thanks over the final few days.
Are Cornish people smaller than others, as today all 42 timber kissing gates were virtually impossible to pass through, most had thorny portcullises to heighten the sensation. James, I really can't thank you enough for five days of relentless Baldricking, you utter titan. My old boss Sue turned up for a late cameo with a promise of a full show tomorrow and some west country pastries.
Just a simply breathtaking walk and some extraordinary generosity, my favourite being the rhubarb and salted caramel ice cream from the Shallikabooky Beach hut in Pendower: sounds ridiculous, was frankly obscenely good ....nice people Cornish folk, I keep saying it. Many heroes on this trek, but today I spent a moment by the plaque on the quayside in Falmouth commemorating the heroes of the raid on St. Nazaire, perhaps the greatest of them all.
Now then, three days left and I've waited all summer to write this ... tomorrow ... the Tiger meets the Lizard.

932 miles completed. 68 remaining. How far did you walk today?
