Day 36
Tavistock to Liskeard
Cornish pasting
Figures: the first five hundred miles had a vertical gain of 5000 metres. The second 15,000! Solid facts underwriting the many days of vertiginous torture over the latter days of this crusade. Today was a series of desperately steep up and downs monstered by James and Barry. Good to see James back, an utter hero last year and coming in for a five day stretch at the business end of this, caper. Despite the challenges Cornwall was positively blooming after its late summer leavening. My fish and chips dinner came highly recommended. It was expensive and absolutely dreadful.
The messages, the emails, the well wishers, the donations, the gifts, the generosity all make such a difference. But one wish from me: those who have said 'you've got this' or 'you're nearly there' are inescapably wrong. Six days of Cornish peaks and troughs would defeat most of Noah's lot, hopefully not tigers.
870 miles completed. 130 remaining. How far did you walk today?
