Day 27

Winchester to Brockenhurst

'Test' of time

Each day you fear the double act of heat and tarmac, today that was in abundance plus no little drama. Somehow the combination of Justin, Elaine and Richard rescued us from each episode but not without some old-fashioned determined map-work as well as keeping the walkers supplied with everything they needed to complete 25 gruelling miles. Annabelle - 'this is the furthest I've walked in my life' was coolness throughout as was the absurdly cheerful Carys but it was an incredibly tough day.

Just as the mercury nudged 30 we paused above the River Test on Broadlands estate in the heart of Hampshire, below speckled trout glided across the coruscating shingle like wraiths, it was both beautiful and captivating and every bit of us screamed 'go join them', but of the few transgressions this week accomplished, trespass was not one of them. Somehow we finished, beaten, a little bloodied from already autumnal brambles but unbowed. I keep saying it but today was all about the tiger team.

675 miles completed. 325 remaining. How far did you walk today?
