Day 26
Alton to Winchester
AUSTEN POWERS
Late yesterday there was a cruel and insidious rumour that my host may be poisoning me with the gastronomic antichrist of aubergine: proffering a soggy Shoreditch moussaka instead of an unctuous butch lasagna. Fortunately it was a culinary subterfuge and Lou' s Italian was the size of a breeze block, it needed to be to underwrite today's Hampshire parched earth paths in the fabled lady writer's backyard.
Today was the most numerous posse so far - did I count them out and back? Did I f***. 22 started, 11 finished, there's nothing easy about this but throughout the support team is there to refresh, ferry and feed, NONE of this happens without them. Special mention to Gillian for her spectacular Scotch eggs: home made with three mischievous sauces ...#levels, talking of which, they were pretty high all day...22 starters, four dogs and 31 degrees ... regulation!
650 miles completed. 350 remaining. How far did you walk today?
