Day 24

Wimbledon to Woking

Thames Barriers

Huge day, huge contingent, huge shift: it needed to be, I think there were maybe a couple of them who didn't get the full PG hairdryer at some point today.... I cannot thank them enough particularly after the capital chaos yesterday but today was a slog in the ceaseless heat. Too many really to mention but Lynsey probably did at least 5 km extra spreading the word and Rachael not far behind, but like all of them, with humour, compassion and indefatigability. Marvellous hospitality from Katia and not for the first time.
Mo's kitchen was gas mark eight and the free ice creams from Little H were sumptuous. Some outstanding moments from so many Thamesiders who gave high praise, high generosity and many high fives but perhaps the moment of the day was the ten minutes with triple Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell. This titan knows a few things about endurance and suffering and to compare chatter on the towpath was both pertinent and inspiring. Thank you James. I really mean it.

28 degrees, over £30K in the tank, thank you team, thank you all.

Six hundred miles completed. 400 remaining. How far did you walk today?
