Day 12

Sutton Bridge to Snettisham

The vagaries of rural British hotels are bounteous, but ‘we can’t do a poached egg because it’s Sunday’ was utterly beyond me. Religious reasons, Masonic or just Lincolnshire?
25 knots of wind anywhere but on the tail was unwelcome, another sumptuous Parker lunch was not. Eight of us today, thank you. Brilliant to see Lizzie and Chris, the Duracell Jenny and Terry for his second stint, when it really mattered. The whole thing underwritten by the A team of Chapmans and Sutcliffes.

Great to walk with Chris Haslam from the Sunday Times for a couple of hours. Then had a brush with the law today. Constant hydration means constant tyre checks. A disused King’s Lynn car park was where the Tiger came to pee, sadly interrupted by a plain clothes police car. Once they realised what this was about they dimmed the blue light and were utter gents, although they didn’t shake my hand …

Plenty of stripes earned today. Dinner stopped serving in Snettisham at 19.30…. I mean what the actual …?

300 miles completed, 700 remaining. How far did you walk today?
